Science A-Z is the specialized product to support science teaching from Learning A-Z. Science A-Z rests on a dual base of scientific literacy and inquiry. Scientific literacy requires exposing students to materials that promote learning fundamental scientific concepts and practices. An inquiry-based approach to science instruction emphasizes problem-based learning, in which students generate and revise theories and draw conclusions based on evidence.
This white paper includes definitions of the following terms, together with descriptions of how Science A-Z addresses these instructional needs:
- Scientific literacy
- Scientific inquiry
- Science and engineering practices
- Cross-cutting concepts that span multiple scientific disciplines
