Research shows that when curriculum and instruction are intentionally designed to create opportunities for social-emotional learning (SEL), students are more likely to have increased academic achievement, greater understanding of themselves and their peers, and reduced emotional stress.
Based on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) research, Learning A-Z utilizes the “windows and mirrors” metaphor first introduced by Rudine Sims Bishop as well as diverse internal and external advisory boards of educators, writers, editors, and illustrators who work together to inform the creation of new resources and the evolution of our literacy solutions.
Learning A-Z is focused on providing culturally responsive instructional resources to help educators create environments that can validate and reflect diverse identities and experiences, enabling students to:
- develop strong reading and writing skills with culturally responsive content
- grow self-confidence, self-awareness, social awareness, and empathy
- develop inclusive and respectful dialogue skills
