About This Case Study
Hoboken Public Schools has built a districtwide literacy strategy grounded in structured literacy, Science of Reading practices, and equitable access to high-quality instruction. This case study explores how the district uses Raz-Plus® from ExploreK12™ to extend core literacy instruction, support differentiated learning, and provide students with meaningful opportunities to build fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills.
Results
By integrating Raz-Plus into small-group instruction, interventions, literacy centers, independent reading, and at-home practice, Hoboken educators have created more personalized reading experiences for students. District leaders report stronger student engagement, growth in fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, and increasing confidence among readers. These efforts have coincided with strong districtwide literacy achievement, including a 2023–2024 ELA proficiency rate of 68.2%, exceeding the statewide rate of 52.2%.
