Virtual Writing Summit 2.0:
Strategies from The Writing Rope for Think, Plan, Write, Revise
https://player.vimeo.com/video/924693894
Are you looking for instructional suggestions for strategies students can use at each stage of the writing process? This session builds on Learning A-Z’s previous Virtual Writing Summit and takes a deeper dive into the writing process, which is a component of the Critical Thinking strand of Joan Sedita's "Writing Rope" and includes thinking, planning, writing, and revising.
After a brief review of the five strands of The Writing Rope framework for teaching writing, Joan will offer strategies and scaffolds that support each stage:
- Think Stage: using two-column notes to gather ideas and information before writing
- Plan Stage: using a topic web to organize and plan the structure of a writing piece
- Write Stage: using writing templates and transition words to support writing first drafts
- Revise Stage: using peer and teacher feedback checklists to help students edit their writing
Students should follow all four stages of the writing process when writing in any grade and any subject. Learn new strategies you can use with your students to support this process and grow student achievement that will be evident in your year-end assessments!
The Learning A-Z team demonstrates how Writing A-Z aligns with The Writing Rope in a series of short demonstrations.
In case you missed it, be sure to watch the recording of the first Virtual Writing Summit.
