The Training and Development Specialist holds responsibility for improving the productivity of the organization's employees as well as helping to create and promote the corporate identity and mission. This position assesses company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees. This individual will actively search, creatively design and implement effective methods to educate, enhance, and recognize employee performance.

Essential Job Functions:

Employee Learning and Development Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assesses training and development needs through surveys, gap analysis, interviews, focus groups, and communication with managers and employees. Conducts annual training and development needs assessment
  • Creates, organizes, plans, and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training for employees. Utilize and expand LAZ University platform
  • Supports the Learning A-Z leadership team with succession planning and creates the development plans to support high potential employees
  • Supports Cambium Learning Group corporate community by creating a focus on employee development, including but not limited to DEI work, creation of mentor programs and buddy programs to enhance cross departmental learning and growth
  • Obtains or develops unique training programs to fulfill workers specific needs to maintain or improve job skills and to grow within a career path
  • Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials
  • Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos
  • Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements
  • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development
  • Prepares and implements training budget; maintains records and reports of expenses
  • Performs other duties as required
Communication Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Plans, prepares, and distributes a broad array of digital and/or print communication materials such as articles, newsletters, email, blog, and social media posts, intranet bulletin boards, and other employee updates on behalf of the organization
  • Promotes and attends special company events and functions; promotes and reports on business unit milestones and activities such as organization goals and projects; new products or services; community service activities; training and development events and resources, and new hires, promotions, and retirements
  • Ensures that all communicated materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization

Additional Job Functions:

  • Performs other duties as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and implementing employee development programs
  • Five years' experience working in human resources and/or training positions
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives
  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, desktop publishing software, and related program software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential
