Who is Bob Holl and why is he blogging?


As a passionate educator, always striving to help teachers in creative, new ways, Bob is Learning A-Z's co-founder and VP/Publisher. He blogs about what he sees from education's frontline, and asks: "What's new, what's in need of change, what's improving, and how can we make it even better?"

Bob Holl, the co-founder and VP/Publisher of Learning A-Z, brings his passion and understanding for what happens in the learning process to the thousands of high quality educational resources he's developed during his 40+ years in education. His love of education has its roots in the practicalities of his own professional classroom experience. After graduating from Bowling Green University with a B.S. and M. Ed., Bob taught in elementary, middle, and high school before beginning his storied educational publishing career.

"Learning that starts in the classroom extends into life. That's why it's so important that we teach kids how to learn," Bob says. "As educators, we have the opportunity and responsibility to get them ready for the road ahead."

After teaching, Bob's educational publishing career began in sales and marketing. Eventually he would ascend to a host of important leadership roles — VP of Development for the Wright Group, VP and Editor in Chief of both Scott Foresman and Addison Wesley, and Executive VP of Videodiscovery, Inc. But, his mission has never changed. He wants to have an impact on student literacy — because that's the foundation on which all learning is built. And he wants to give teachers what they need to do the fabulous job they do every day even better.

Outside the office, Bob says he continues to learn from whatever he is doing — including hiking, biking, and going to the theater in Tucson. He travels whenever he can get away — and has trekked through Nepal, Peru, Thailand, Vietnam, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand. The biggest problem he says is getting all the nonessential stuff like a clean t-shirt and toothbrush into his backpack along with all the Learning A-Z books he likes to pass out wherever he goes.
